SOUTH CHINA SEA

 In recent times you may have heard interference of china in south china sea which has created a deep tension in that area..

The following countries  have rights over South China sea.-:

1. China
2. Brunei
3. Malaysia
4. Philippines
5. Vietnam
6. Indonesia

Why does china wants south china sea?

        South china sea has following natural resources-:

• 11 billion barrels of oil
• 190 trillion  cubic feet of natural gas
• 10% of the world fisheries
• And the most important 30% of the global shipping trade flows through here to economic centres to south east asia.

How to dominate the south china sea?

        According to the UNITED NATIONS CONVENTION ON LAW OF THE SEA, it states that a countries territorial waters extend 200 miles of its shore, an area known as the EXCLUSIVE ECONOMIC ZONE or (EEZ).

     

         According to it a country has right on mineral resources within the EEZ . So to increase there EEZ china is conquering some independant islands in the south china sea which do not fall under EEZ of any country. By capturing them china could increase its EEZ  and thus will have control over more resouces of south china sea .

        Now for this to happen, china is building naval bases around these islands and preventing other countries to settle down there. like for eg-:

              

             Spartly islands-: These are a group of islands in the heart of south china sea which are remote and barely inhabited and currently claimed by following countries -: China,Vietnam,Phillipines and Malaysia.

           So if a country has the claim on spartly islands it can extend its EEZ to the maximum.Thats why some countries have built man made sand islands over there and claim it as a part of there land and even stuck a few people over there.

      

         China has built many islands over there and built naval bases over it and deployed many troops. It has deployed many destroyers and war ships surrounding the islands claimed by the countries other then china and seals the  access of any other country over it.

    

                                 Following is a chineese naval base captured from satellite.

        China has also started surveillance in these areas and catch trespassers over there .It is doing the whole process so slowly that it is not evident to others, by doing this china is  avoiding an international conflict.

     

      It has also declared this area as air identification zone which means if any aircraft has to cross the south china sea then it has to take permission from china.   

This whole is done to declare its supremacy over the area.
